Haulin' In Christmas 2006

For the past 15 years the Sully Christian School has celebrated the Christmas season with a fundraising event called, "The Festival of Trees". It's always been at the school, we fix a soup supper, people volunteer to bring and decorate a tree, we have a cookie walk, we collect donations, etc. The last few years, for the amount of work involved, it just wasn't a profitable fundraiser anymore. This year, the city of Sully decided to host their first annual Haulin' in Christmas celebration, complete with a judged lighted truck parade. The local businesses got involved, there was a bonfire and caroling. The school decided to get involved as well, making this our annual Christmas fundraising event, rather than the Christmas Tree Festival. We moved over to the Sully Community Center, only had 1 tree, served our traditional soup dinner, and of course our cookie walk!! There was a bit more work in some areas (having to transport supplies and food to the community center rather than having it all right at our fingertips in the school kitchen), but a lot less work in the decorating and preparation of school areas. Most of all, it brought in more people, as we weren't secluded south of town, in the school gym. We were right in the center of it all.

Being away from the school made Monte wonder if the celebration would lose some of the Christian values that the school always included, when it was in our gym. To keep "The Reason For The Season" alive, Monte thought we should decorate our 16' trailer in a manger scene, complete with lights, real people, and a great song called 'Saviors Lullaby". He and his Dad, Marv, put a great deal of work into building and decorating. Monte set up speakers and an amplifier for the music. We recruited the help of some great friends of ours, to help play the parts. It turned out wonderful. We even won 1st place in the Pickup division. It was a great success for the school and being planned for again next year.
